The Associazione Terra, together with Franco Iacono and the family of Valerio Iacono, the CAI, represented by Francesco Mattera, and Cesare Mattera, a traditional farmer and former mayor of Serrara Fontana, continues, together with friends from Forio and Serrara Fontana, a tradition they themselves began more than twenty years ago.

On Saturday, August 15, the meeting point is at 7:30 a.m., in front of the Il Bracconiere restaurant in Serrara Fontana.

From there, the new “pilgrims of the environment” will set off. After crossing the sun-drenched rocks of Frassitelli and the Acacia woods, they will reach the fascinating area of Falanga.

Accompanied by experienced CAI guides, selected by Francesco Mattera himself, participants will explore this still-thriving natural habitat and visit the Fosse della Neve (ancient snow pits) and the Case di Pietra (stone houses), continuing as far as the remarkable Pietra Pirciata and the limestone woodland of Bianchetto.

It will be an opportunity to immerse ourselves in an extraordinary flora, rich in rare species, while rediscovering one of the most fascinating and distinctive natural environments of the island of Ischia.

On the way back, we will welcome you with traditional rural cuisine: bread with tomatoes and the farmer’s salad, accompanied by the excellent wine from Cesare’s cellar.

There will also be granita, reviving the ancient tradition of using snow preserved in the specially built “snow pits.”

This year’s excursion is dedicated to the memory of Valerio Iacono, who was one of the driving forces behind this initiative together with Associazione Terra, of which he was president.

See you on Ferragosto!
