SYNOPSIS
Buen Camino, directed by Gennaro Nunziante, follows the story of Checco (Checco Zalone), a man whose life couldn't be more comfortable. As the only son of Eugenio Zalone, a fabulously wealthy sofa manufacturer, Checco enjoys every imaginable luxury. He spends his days lounging by the pool of his lavish villas, waited on by a household staff of Filipino servants, dating a much younger Mexican model, and vacationing aboard his yacht with friends who share his greatest passion: avoiding work.
By all appearances, Checco has everything anyone could ever want. But there is one thing missing from his seemingly perfect life: his teenage daughter, Cristal—named after the famous French champagne—who has suddenly disappeared without a trace.
Summoned urgently to Rome by his ex-wife Linda, Checco is forced, for the first time in his life, to confront the responsibilities of fatherhood. Finding Cristal proves especially difficult, since he knows virtually nothing about her or the life she leads. His only lead comes from Corina, Cristal's best friend, whom Checco manages to bribe into revealing that his daughter has gone to Spain.
Why Spain? He soon discovers that Cristal has set out on the Camino de Santiago, determined to walk the 800-kilometer pilgrimage in search of meaning and purpose. Checco considers the journey absurd, but he has little choice except to follow her.
Across sun-drenched trails, cold and rain-soaked mountains, remote villages, humble meals, and overcrowded, run-down pilgrims' hostels, Checco embarks on an adventure unlike anything he has ever experienced. As father and daughter share the hardships of the road, he struggles to rebuild the relationship he neglected for years. The task seems almost impossible, but journeys have a way of changing people—and sometimes they reveal that true wealth has nothing to do with money.
