SYNOPSIS
Is This the Last Laugh?, directed by Bradley Cooper, tells the story of Alex Novak (Will Arnett) and Tess (Laura Dern), a married couple who, after many years together, decide to end their marriage amicably, attempting to follow separate paths without disrupting their family life.
Alex, facing a midlife crisis and an impending divorce, tries to reinvent himself in the world of New York stand-up comedy, searching for a new purpose and a sense of identity beyond his roles as husband and father. Tess, meanwhile, reflects on the sacrifices she has made for her family and on her own sense of self, as she is forced to redefine her priorities and confront the challenges of life on her own.
As they navigate their separation, the two must learn how to manage co-parenting, establish new family dynamics, and rediscover the very meaning of love—which can evolve and take unexpected forms even after a marriage has ended.
Through intimate reflections, moments of humor, and personal growth, the film explores with sensitivity and honesty how two people can part ways while continuing to grow together as a family.
