After making the world forget his true identity, with the help of Doctor Strange, Peter Parker has resumed his career as Spider-Man, this time completely alone—with only the support of the artificial intelligence E.V. After defeating various criminals, reducing crime in New York, and gaining the sympathy of the citizens and even the police, Spider-Man faces a new threat: an entity capable of possessing people. It seeks something hidden from Damage Control, the government agency that monitors the use of superpowers and advanced technology. Also on the personal front, Peter Parker runs into his friend Ned, who has returned from Boston with MJ. Despite choosing not to reveal his identity, he follows him to a party in his new apartment and realizes that he has lost, perhaps forever, something extremely precious. Meanwhile, Spider-Man's powers begin to function abnormally, and soon Peter finds himself trying to combat a disconcerting evolution.
