The archaeological area of Mazzola site, on the Mezzavia hill in Lacco Ameno, was investigated in the 1960s by Giorgio Buchner. The remains—dry-stone structures dating back to at least the 8th century BCE—are interpreted as part of a metallurgical district linked to ancient Pithekoussai.

More recent investigations carried out between 2023 and 2024 by the Superintendence for the Metropolitan Area of Naples and later by the University of Naples L'Orientale have enabled further analysis of the site. These ongoing excavations, resumed in September 2024, continue to refine and expand the archaeological data gathered from earlier campaigns.
