Under the direction of Maestro Emiliano Bernagozzi, the Bologna-based ensemble brings to the stage of the Greek Theatre a musical journey through film scores, beloved classics, and a special tribute to Lady Walton.
As part of the 2026 edition of the Youth Orchestras Festival, currently taking place at the Greek Theatre of the La Mortella Gardens on Ischia, the Bentivoglio Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform on Thursday, 2 July. Hailing from the town of Bentivoglio, just outside Bologna, the orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Emiliano Bernagozzi.
The ensemble comes to the Festival with a spirit rooted in passion, commitment and professionalism. The orchestra was founded within the Orchestral Training Laboratory promoted by the "Il Temporale" Music School in Bentivoglio, thanks to the close collaboration between the school's teachers and musicians of established artistic and educational experience.
Made up of around forty young musicians aged thirteen and above, the Bentivoglio Youth Symphony Orchestra has already received important recognition, including First Prize at the Rossini International Competition in Pesaro in 2016. It has also toured the Czech Republic (2016) and performed in Irpinia, culminating in a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria at the Royal Palace of Caserta.
In Ischia, the young musicians will present a varied programme conceived as a shared celebration. The audience will enjoy the vibrant energy of Arturo Márquez's Danzón No. 2, internationally acclaimed film scores from The NeverEnding Story, The Mask of Zorro, and The Man in the Iron Mask, as well as lively and entertaining pieces such as Bug's Bunny's Greatest Hits, Rocky Broadway, and Go West.
The programme also features moments of great emotion, including What a Wonderful World, alongside orchestral favourites such as Johann Strauss's Radetzky March and Thunder and Lightning Polka.
A particularly significant moment of the evening will be the performance of William Walton's Crown Imperial March, offered as a heartfelt tribute to the genius loci and to the memory of Lady Susana Walton, marking the centenary of her birth.
Leading the orchestra will be Emiliano Bernagozzi, an internationally acclaimed flautist and ocarina virtuoso. Throughout his distinguished career he has collaborated with prestigious institutions including the Bologna Municipal Theatre, the Arturo Toscanini Orchestra of Emilia-Romagna, and the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Parma. He has performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly, Giuseppe Sinopoli, and Ennio Morricone, sharing the stage with legendary artists including Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Mariella Devia, Andrea Bocelli, and Salvatore Accardo.
The concert will take place at 9:00 p.m. in the enchanting setting of the Greek Theatre at La Mortella Gardens.
